Sudan to Cultivate 600 Thousand Acres of Wheat

    Khartoum - The government has begun preparations for cultivation of 600 thousand feddans of wheat during winter season. Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and the chairman of the high

    committee for wheat cultivation, Mohamed Hassan Jubara expressed his ministry’s readiness to meet that target due to availability of funding and provision of inputs by the agricultural bank. Following the committee meeting which was attended by the director-general of the bank and other parties concerned, Jubara disclosed that the cost of one sack of local wheat seeds weighing 50 kilos was SDG 260, with SDG 300 for the imported. He stressed on the government economic reform policy striving at exporting rather than importing, reassuring farmers of the availability of pesticides which have been abundantly provided for, with some states getting enough of them.
    On the other hand, Gezira and Managil tenants union has expressed full support of the committee meeting outcome, demonstrating zeal to make the winter season a success.
